Venture Capital is another dimension. When the company is private the owners have a choice can put their vision first not the money. When we're dealing with Venture Capital or public company giving return no matter what becomes priority.

Morgan,

We're like doctors. We offer best advice we can and it often would be for the customer to follow it (unless they hire us to implement and manage things as well). Indeed in many cases I feel sorry for customers choosing not to follow my advice but this is their choice and I did what I could.

Same as Dentist may feel sorry if one is not brushing their teeth we're sorry one is not doing backups...

I value this vendor-neutral stance from a consulting company, but I think we need to understand that the customer may not make neutral choices based on what was the 'best technology available' either.  I've often thought resource availability is more important than the technology choice itself.  For example;

I once saw a lot of damage when MySQL was handed to SQL Server developers to run off and write an application in stored procedures, only to discover that the debugging capabilities are limited, and Dynamic SQL is non deterministic in statement based replication.
