Did you consider a partnership for Consultants or some other means of profit sharing? The thing about a salary is that you'll have to pay it even when the company does bad which somehow counters the idea of sharing in the success of the company.

If I had all the skills required to work for Percona I'm pretty sure I'd do good on my own as well and only use Percona as multiplicator for my own business so I might as well share alike in the losses (if there are any).

The nice thing about payroll taxes from a lawmakers perspective is that not many voter will notice it going up so not as many people will care. And even if you as an employer raise the question it can be construed as cheaping out on your employees' benefits.

I absolutely agree with Vlad. Horrible and terrific health care system in US. The current monopolies of these insurance companies should be destroyed and there should not be any second opinition to be asked. All these insurance systems are big BS. I am waiting for someone take in charage and destroy the existing systesm.

I have never lived in UK therefore I can not compare health care systems in US and UK, but US system of a monopolies of a private insurance companies must be changed/altered/ destroyed (as Karfagen ). I do not want a third commercial party between me and my doctor or a hospital. Remember, here in US insurance company decides what is good for you - not your doctor. The less procedures/treatments insurance company approves the bigger their profit. Btw, have you ever tried to get health insurance directly not from employer? When you have precondition?

What a great response from your son. I totally agree with him about reading a book instead of smoking.

Like you I never throw away books and have an ever increasing pile of them, especially if they are old and interesting.

Books are the lifeblood of the modern age, even though we all now live with computers. You only have to look at how many searches people make on Public Domain information to see how important books from the past really are.

I'm going to go with stupidity here. I'm sure it's just a question of minimizing liability for the Daycare Center. I agree with you, in the unlikely event of an evacuation, they would be fine for a short while without shoes. They're not required to sleep with their coats on are they? Following that line of thought, that would be the logical next step...

This is a very weird regulation indeed. Who sleeps with his shoes on... Probably the state regulation was enacted after a terrible fire at a Daycare to give the (false) impression that the state is doing something to keep children "safe". Some people really lose sight for reality when children are involved. Also it might be to shield the Daycare from liability...

The interesting thing about those weird laws (the US and States have many more of them) is that there must have been some time when they made sense to some people.

Well, I think they are putting money at the wrong place. If they put that money to fight environmental (cancer due to pollution and other shits) and social (junk food) causes of people need to see a doctor, Health will not be anymore as attractive to insurance industries. What we want is preventive medecine, not care medecine that only sell drugs.

Cheers
